Craig Johnson Welcomes Extended Stay for Nova Scotia Music Week
March 30th, 2017 – (Truro, N.S.) Liberal Candidate for Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River Craig Johnson is applauding Music Nova Scotia’s decision to make Truro the home of Nova Scotia Music Week (NSMW) for the next three years in a row.
“This is both a significant cultural and economic opportunity for our community” said Johnson, who served as chair of NSMW in 2014 and 2016.
In a press release issued earlier this month, Music Nova Scotia’s Executive Director Scott Long said Truro is a natural fit for the four-day festival, and Johnson couldn’t agree more.
“When I signed on to chair the host committee in 2014, I felt Truro had a significant opportunity to showcase what we have to offer,” explained Johnson. “We have obviously proved that this community has the people, infrastructure and enthusiasm to host these kinds of large-scale events.”
In 2014, attendance to the festival increased dramatically by 46 per cent, bringing in over a million dollars to Truro’s local economy.
NSMW 2017 will take place in Truro from November 2-5th and will also mark the festival’s 20th anniversary. It’s estimated the event will attract more than 8,000 guests and result in $2 million in economic spinoffs for the province with approximately $1.5 million benefiting the community directly.
